OMG

This Cold War Era Home Is Completely Charming, But Completely Underground.

By  |

In 1978, wealthy businessman Girard Jerry B. Henderson decided to build the house of his dreams. It was full of quaint decorations, busy 70s wallpaper and a kitchen so brightly colored, it could blind you. That”s not the best part about this house, though. It”s hiding a pretty amazing secret.

Jerry was a little on the paranoid side because of the Cold War, so he outfitted his brand-new house with an extra, hidden section: an underground fallout shelter.

The underground portion of the house was made to resemble a normal, above-ground house and yard. The 15,200-square-foot subterranean section was equipped so that a family could live underground for an entire year (you know, in case of an apocalypse). It might sound crazy, but I will kill to live in this house.

3970 Spencer St. near Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, Nevada, looks normal enough.

It”s just a two-story home on a normal street, right?

Wrong. So, so wrong.

A stairway leading to the secret part of the house is hidden in the yard, as well as an elevator.

Given that there are three bedrooms below ground and a full, two-story house above ground… that”s not bad.

Thankfully, the Cold War didn”t result in a nuclear apocalypse. You never know when an underground home may come in handy, though. This could be your perfect defense against the impending zombie apocalypse.
