3D Printing Gave A Blind Mother-To-Be The Most Moving Surprise Of Her Life

By  |

For many expectant parents, seeing their baby-to-be via ultrasound for the first time is a moving moment. But for 30-year-old Tatiana Guerra, this moment was something she thought she would never experience. When she went for a routine ultrasound, she never expected to see her son. That”s because she lost her sight at the age of 17.

But there was a surprise in store for her this time. Her doctors teamed up with a 3-D printing team and created a printed sculpture based on the ultrasound image. This allowed Guerra to touch the image of her son”s face and experience what he might look like before the big day.

Guerra had no idea what to expect when the doctor handed her the sculpture.

You can watch the beautiful moment for yourself in the video below.

The short film was sponsored by Huggies Brazil, who collaborated with ad agency Mood and digital designers The Goodfellas. A 3-D printing setup was assembled in the next room, so in just 15 minutes, little Murilo”s likeness was printed and presented to his surprised mom.

This printing innovation is opening up all kinds of doors for people worldwide, allowing them to have access to materials and information that were never available to them before. And in the case of Tatiana and Murilo, we can see the deeply emotional impact this technology can have on our lives.
