Over a decade ago, Richard Mangino of Revere, Massachusetts, lost all four of his limbs to a severe bloodstream infection. His hands and feet had to be amputated to save his life. But in 2011, at the age of 65, he made history as the recipient of the first successful double hand transplant at Brigham and Women”s Hospital in Boston.
3 years after his hands transplant, he has shown his incredible determination to fully recover. Now, he is able to use his new hands to swim, mow the lawn, drive and most of all do what he truly loves, play the piano.

Mr. Mangino says he doesn”t want his achievements to end there, and hopes to one day be able to pick up another great love of his, to play the guitar again.
