The Giant Weta Is Harmless To Humans, But It Might Be The Creepiest Bug Ever
By WebRover |
Nine times out of ten, people will tell you that they want nothing to do with a seven-inch bug, even if it”s harmless to humans. You can hardly blame those folks, either. The only thing worse than a creepy bug is one of that size. Despite their huge yuck factor, the giant weta bug manages to be charming and maybe even a little bit cute.
Warning: pictures of giant bugs ahead.
The giant weta bug looks a lot like a grasshopper…until you pick it up, that is.
The giant weta”s size can be attributed to the species” isolation. They can only be found on several islands off the coast of New Zealand.
While pictures of giant bugs usually invoke fear, there”s no need to worry about the giant weta. They”re typically harmless to humans.
Unless you”re Bear Grylls…
This particular giant weta was found on the Poor Knights Islands. It was eight inches in length when it died.
Watch your step when you”re around a giant weta habitat. I can”t imagine it”d feel very good to crush one of these guys.
I”ll admit it…if I ever saw a giant weta bug in nature, I”d hightail it out of there. While they are fantastic creatures from an evolutionary perspective, I have no desire to admire them up close.
Not freaky enough for you? How about these creepy creatures?
