This Is What A Molting Tarantula Looks Like, And It’s The Stuff Of Nightmares

By  |

Like most spiders and anthropods, tarantulas shed their exoskeletons from time to time as they grow. It”s a bit of a freaky process, and certainly something that looks shocking if you happen to come across it happening in the wild. More than anything though, looks like some sort of an alien birth or a gross scene from a scifi-horror movie.

Typically a tarantula molting its exoskeleton is a process that can take up to 10 hours to complete.

A team of enterprising naturists decided to film the lengthy molting process. They then sped up the video so that the whole thing only took 5 and a half minutes.

This might just be haunting my nightmares for the rest of my life…no matter how natural or normal it is.

Once the tarantula is done with its molting, it leaves behind a near perfect replica of its body in the form of its old exoskeleton. Coming across one of these exoskeletons would be almost as freaky as finding a giant tarantula in your way.
